Sgr-Jmu highway closed again as landslides continue in Ramban | KNO

Srinagar, January 30 (KNO) : The fresh landslides in Ramban area has once again led to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday with official saying that the road clearance work on the road has been started. According to KNO correspondent, the landslides occurred in Ramban area today following which the authorities ordered closure of highway. It is pertinent to mention here that the highway was closed several times in the recent past due to which hundreds of commuters remain stuck on the highway for almost seven days. The road was earlier closed due to the snowfall that triggered slippery conditions of the road and avalanches at Jawahar Tunnel besides landslides. Officials told KNO that one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed to ply today as soon as the landslide is cleared. He further added that “no traffic will be allowed in the opposite direction to avoid overcrowding.” Meanwhile, the light snowfall continued across the Valley today, bring the temperature further down. The MeT officials had predicted light snowfall across the Valley today, saying that snowfall would continue till Thursday evening. The higher reaches including famous ski-resort and other tourist destinations including Gulmarg, Pahalgam and others also received fresh snowfall. It is worth to mention here that the 40-day-long harsh winter period, ‘Chaillai-kalan’ ended today.(KNO)
